Brantford Collegiate Institute
Brantford Collegiate Institute and Vocational School, also known as simply "Brantford Collegiate Institute" or "BCI", is a secondary school in the city of Brantford. It is commonly known as Brantford's "saving grace", in terms of secondary schools. Its activity is overseen by the Grand Erie District School Board, a medium-sized school board in the Province of Ontario.
For the 2005-06 academic year, the enrollment figures for BCI were: 262 students for Grade 9, 307 for Grade 10, 305 for Grade 11, 392 for Grade 12, and 20 developmentally delayed students, making a total of 1,286.
== Relocation controversy ==
BCI was the Brantford's oldest school and stood as a historic landmark for approximately a century. For a considerable time, the city and the Grand Erie District School Board worked on a plan to update and renovate the deteriorating school building in its original location on Brant Avenue. Significant controversy resulted when the school board reversed its plan to rebuild BCI in its original location - there are now new plans which involve moving the school to Shellard Lane.
